LIC Accidental Death & Disability Benefit Rider

LIC’s Accidental Death & Disability Benefit Rider (AD&DBR, UIN 512B209V02) is a non‑linked life rider that pays extra benefits on accidental death and also on total and permanent disability due to an accident.

What the rider covers

  • Accidental death: If the life assured dies due to an accident within 180 days of the accident, the Accident Benefit Sum Assured is paid in addition to the base policy death benefit.
  • Accidental total & permanent disability: If an accident (as per definition) causes total and permanent disability within 180 days, the rider pays a disability benefit and also waives future premiums for that portion of cover.

Accident must be a sudden, unforeseen, involuntary event caused by external, violent and visible means.

Benefit structure

On accidental death

  • A lump sum equal to Accident Benefit Sum Assured is paid to the nominee, over and above the base plan’s death benefit.

On accidental total & permanent disability

If the life assured suffers total and permanent disability as defined (unable to perform at least 4 Activities of Daily Living such as dressing, hygiene, eating, toileting, moving indoors, sitting/standing etc.), then:

  • Disability Benefit = Accident Benefit Sum Assured, paid in equal monthly instalments over 10 years.
  • Future premiums are waived:
    • Rider premiums, and
    • Base‑policy premiums corresponding to Basic Sum Assured equal to the Accident Benefit Sum Assured.

If the life assured dies during this 10‑year disability‑instalment period, any remaining unpaid disability instalments are not paid; however, base‑policy death claim (sum assured plus bonuses/guaranteed additions, as applicable) is payable as per its terms.

Eligibility and basic limits

From LIC’s endorsement and sales brochure (always use latest UIN‑specific brochure for exact grid):

  • Entry age: 18 to 65 years (nearer birthday).
  • Maximum cover age: Rider benefits available up to age 70 (nearer birthday); rider ceases thereafter even if base policy continues.
  • When it can be added:
    • At inception, or
    • Later during premium‑paying term, only if at least 5 years of PPT remain and life assured will not attain 70 within those 5 years.
  • Accident Benefit Sum Assured:
    • Minimum: ₹10,000.
    • Maximum: Equal to Basic Sum Assured of base plan, subject to overall cap of ₹1 crore Accident Benefit Sum Assured across all LIC policies on the same life (current public limit).
  • Premium mode: Same as base plan; rider premium is paid along with base‑policy premium.

The rider does not acquire any paid‑up or surrender value—if base policy lapses or becomes paid‑up, this rider benefit stops.
